Mississauga Marathon Training – Week 9 – March 21 – 27

IMG_6378Hope you had a wonderful Easter!  I had a great time with my family and the adventure of the ICE STORM and POWER OUTAGE.  Oh, but that is the FUN part isn’t yet…

This week has been a HUGE write off. It started on Monday the day after running my trail run at the Dundas Valley Conservation area.  Monday I had VERY terribly sore quads so much so that it was very hard to walk down the stairs.  I knew it was a bad idea to run down the hills as fast as I could but I was caught up in the moment and then it was gone and 32km was in for the day.  Good thing today (Monday) is my rest day I told myself as I got out of bed, I should be fine tomorrow for my Yasso 800’s!

I think the trail took everything out of me and I shouldn’t have run considering I was trailing for a marathon and not a trail run.  Tuesday I missed my Yasso 800 workout, Wednesday I took off, so yet another lesson learned.  But on a good note, I discovered DEEP BLUE RUB from doTERRA…More about that later in the post.

In my head I kept thinking …I honestly don’t know if I have another marathon in me, nor do I know if I want to run one anymore. One is enough and last year I gave it my all (famous last words!), but I really LOVE running.  Training is hard work when you have all the time in the world but I don’t.  I have my work and it’s very demanding schedule. Late nights, sometimes early mornings and my FAMILY, my awesome lovely wife and daughter.  Running takes me away from them when I don’t run early enough in the morning and if I run late at night it really messes with my sleep.  Like I said before training is the hardest part of it all and it’s also the most rewarding.  This Boston time qualifying bug eats away at me every night when I go to sleep, it’s with me while I run, and from time to time during the day.

So, not sure yet….what is going to happen with the Mississauga marathon on May 1st.

the only good running news I have is that I was able to get my Tempo run in.  The time sucked and so did the weather..But I did it…and it was ugly.




Once I got home from my run I took one look outside and said my wife it’s going to get nasty and did.  It started to rain and rain and rain and then it started to freeze.  It became a really big mess very quickly.  The poor trees looked like they were going to start falling over and then the power went out!  Power stayed off all the holiday Friday but came back on late at night at Friday (11pm).


Saturday called for a long run of 32 km and it started off like any other run no big deal. As I ran through the neighbourhoods all I could see was the damage and devastation the trees had caused they were littered all over the place split into two and split in three.
It was crazy to see.   It look like a war zone.




Now back to my run, I was doing well really happy. I Felt very strong but then at about 16km something started going on with my Achilles and I started to get a little bit concerned, so I start to slow down a bit and  I was going up this little bit of an incline and boom. It happened all at once.  I knew I wasn’t going to be running.


I walked 4 kilometers home in pain, limping.  I didn’t really know what was going to happen.  I rested it, I rolled it. Then I remembered oh wait I have…
