Village Juicery

IMG_6900Last year I was training for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon and during one of my training runs I found this AWESOME place called Village Juicery that sells…Umm… juice.  After my run I decided I would go in and see what they had and I’m happy I did.

The sparse, airily-designed store is staffed not by baristas, but by holistic nutritionists, who are always on hand to discuss the nutritional benefits of various ingredients. One nutritionist I spoke with walked through a few of their blends ($10.50 to $13 for 500mL), starting off with a duo green juices.

IMG_6911I love red cabbage and it’s just happened to be the centrepiece of the “Be Strong” blend , my favourite .  Red cabbage is SO healthy, especially if consumed raw.  I love bold colours and when it comes to juices you can’t be more bold then BLOOD RED!  It’s blended with Lemon, Beets, Swiss Chard and Apple, the cabbage still takes centre stage – it’s a little disconcerting at first sip, but it grows on you.

I also got the Probiotic breakfast jar- Coconut Yogurt, Chia Seeds, Hand Made Sunflower Seed Milk, Seasonal Fruit, Pumpkin Seeds, Hemp Hearts, Vanilla and it tasted so good :).  It contains plant based fibre, heart healthy fats, and minerals like calcium, manganese and phosphorus that support healthy cellular function. Paired with fresh fruit, house-made nut and seed milks and careful amounts of whole, natural and nutritious sweeteners.

You Are What You Eat – We live in hyper-driven world where our food choices have given way to modern day conveniences. We believe increasing access to raw, plant-based nutrition is a critical component to improving the health of our community.

Knowledge is Power – Beyond enriching your health, we want to fuel your mind. Our goal is to keep you informed about what you’re consuming, where it comes from, why we select our recipes, and how certain ingredients can impact your life.

IMG_6901Why Certified Organic?

Avoid Toxic Pesticides – Many growers use synthetic pesticides to protect their crops from moulds, insects and diseases. These don’t belong in our juice or for that matter in our bodies.

Higher Nutritional Value – Studies suggest in the absence of pesticides and fertilizers, plants boost their production of the phytochemicals (vitamins and antioxidants). Organic to us means offering the most nutrient-rich juice possible.

Avoid GMOs – Safety of GMO foods is unproven and a growing body of research connects these foods with a range of health concerns. The risk of harm is something we can’t stand behind.

So, if your in the area you HAVE to go in and support such an amazing business.  Their staff are friendly and Very Very knowledgeable.
